Roatán Alive began in 2008 under the leading of Darla Cherrington Sutherland, a native of Roatán, Honduras. Throughout her walk with Christ, she enjoyed teaching and encouraging women through small bible studies and community events, yet her greatest thrill was to see those women going into a deeper relationship with Christ and serving Him wholeheartedly.
In 2007, Darla was called by the Lord to return to her homeland to conduct a Women’s Conference. After a year of praying with 12 sisters in Christ, Darla began to share her vision with other members of her local church. She was encouraged to go to Roatán to speak with community leaders there, and so she did. However, as Darla connected with church leaders and members of the community in Roatán, it became evident that there were other groups that also needed encouragement.
It was then that Roatán Alive Mission was born, with the intent to serve the people of Roatán by offering various events to encourage and empower couples, men, women, teens and children.
Roatán Alive became the name of the annual two-week mission that brings together members of the body of Christ in North America to work alongside the church in Roatán, in order to share the love of Christ and strengthen the family unit.
